Cheil USA serves as the lead agency for all Samsung projects in North America and is strategically located next to Samsung at Legacy Central in Plano, Texas. We are a platform-agnostic team of 250 specialists who turn emerging technologies into tangible stories that connect brands with their audiences. About The Role The Design Director sits at the heart of Cheil’s creative output, responsible for driving design excellence across brand, digital, identity, and experience. You’ll lead and grow a team of designers, ensuring that our work meets clients’ needs while pushing for originality, cultural resonance, and high craftsmanship. You will partner with Strategy, Creative, Production, and Client Leadership to shape work that is bold, strategically grounded, beautifully executed, and scalable. Reports to CCO. What You’ll Do Lead, mentor and grow the design team: set high standards, provide feedback, career development; foster collaboration, creativity, and craftsmanship. Oversee multiple projects simultaneously: ensure design consistency, quality, and on-time delivery across all workstreams (branding, digital, identity, experience, etc.). Collaborate with strategic partners and creative leadership to translate briefs into compelling design visions and creative solutions. Present work to clients, articulating design rationale, building trust and pushing for creative direction. Own and evolve design systems / visual identity frameworks, ensuring consistency and adaptability across all touchpoints. Assist in resource planning: assign design resources, manage capacity, budget oversight, collaborate with design operations to optimize workflow. Participate in hiring, recruiting, and selecting external contributors (freelancers, agencies) when needed. Stay updated on design trends, technology, and visual culture; bring fresh thinking and innovation into our design processes. Role often includes hands-on contribution, especially in early concepts or high-stakes deliverables. What You Bring Proven experience leading design on major brands and campaigns. Strong visual storytelling across digital, social, film, and experiential. Hands-on design expertise plus the leadership to inspire and grow teams. A collaborative spirit and relentless commitment to craft. A background working with premium brands; luxury experience is a plus. Strong understanding of the social space and how brands fit into evolving trends. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor a growing team of designers, ensuring high standards of craft and visual thinking. Oversee multiple design projects end-to-end: concept → execution → delivery. Collaborate with Brand Strategy, Creative Directors, and Client Leads to translate strategy into compelling visual work. Maintain, evolve, and enforce design systems / visual identity frameworks for consistency across channels (digital, physical, environmental). Present design work to internal stakeholders and clients; defend design decisions and articulate creative vision. Resource planning: team allocation, scheduling, hiring (full-time and freelance) and ensuring projects stay within scope, timeline, and budget. Work with production and operations to ensure deliverables are feasible, high quality, and on deadline. Stay ahead of design trends, toolsets, and production techniques; bring innovation in motion, interactivity, and digital experience. Required Qualifications & Skills Typically 12+ years of design experience in an agency, studio, or similar environment; at least 5 years in a leadership role. Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in branding, identity, visual systems, digital/interactive design, and possibly motion. Proficiency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite) and exposure to motion/interactivity tools. Motion or interactive design experience (motion graphics, UI/UX, etc.). Experience building or maintaining design systems; ability to apply design decisions across print, digital, environmental touchpoints. Exceptional communication and presentation skills; ability to liaise with clients, senior leadership, strategists, and producers. Strong mentoring skills and ability to develop a design team, providing constructive feedback. Strong organizational and project management abilities; able to balance multiple projects with deadlines and budgets. Strategic mindset: focus on user experience and brand consistency and business impact. Willingness to work in a hybrid office environment in Plano, Texas. Nice-to-Have / Differentiators Experience with experiential/environmental design or signage / wayfinding. Global brand experience or work across multiple markets. Familiarity with emerging design tech or hybrid media. Strong network of freelancers and vendors with a track record of delivering innovative results.
